CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST AND PAEDIATRIC NEUROPSYCHIATRIST
John is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with an interest in Paediatric Neuropsychiatry and Neuroimmune Psychiatry. After finishing his psychiatry training, he did an additional year fellowship in Paediatric Neurology to help him understand both the psychiatric and neurological side to acute and chronic psychiatric presentations as well as the psychiatric manifestations of neurological disease. He enjoys treating a wide variety of psychiatric conditions but particularly early psychosis, obsessive compulsive disorder and Tourette’s syndrome. He is also particularly interested in autoimmune encephalitis and treating the psychiatric consequences of neurological disorders such as stroke, epilepsy and metabolic disorders. Lastly, he also has an interest in neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.
He both created and runs a service through the paediatric neurology department at the Queensland Children’s Hospital for the diagnosis and treatment of immune mediated neuropsychiatric conditions and is also involved in research to help discover novel treatments for Tourette’s disorder.
